Do you ever find yourself in need of a quick and simple craft you can throw together for a gift or crafting together?

I recently found myself in that position: I couple friends and I had decided to go out for a little “Galentine’s Day” celebration at a nearby restaurant, and I decided it’d be fun to put together some small gifts to celebrate my lady friends.  (For you Parks and Rec fans out there, you know I was channeling my inner Leslie Knope here!)

I didn’t have time to scour Pinterest or Google for ideas (as in, I decided to put these gifts together the same day as our get-together). So I turned to an old-standby: These cute clothespin magnets. Thankfully, I had all the supplies on hand, and in less than a half hour, I had twenty magnets finished!

I’ve made these clothespin magnets on several occasions; a fun crafting day with a friend (love you, Kristi!), as teacher appreciation gifts, and for little love gifts to share at Christmas. It’s fun to offer a little homemade gift, and here’s why I love this one so much:

a.) They use basic supplies I usually have on hand.

b.) They can be made in just ten minutes. Seriously!

c.) They are so practical and cute, they’re a sweet homemade gift perfect for anyone.

Of course,  I won’t blame you a bit if you decide to just make a set for yourself.  (I’ve got several clipped to my own fridge.)  But if you’d like to give them as gift, you can add a special touch with my FREE Printable Gift Tags.  Just print them off on some cardstock, cut them out, and clip the magnets on. Voila! A simple and sweet way to package your gift.

If you’d like to give them as gift, add a special touch with my FREE Printable Gift Tags.  (Click blue download box below.)

The download includes 4 separate labels: “Made With Love For You,” “A Special Gift for You,” “Thank You,” and “Thanks for All You Do.”  Once you download the PDF, just select the page for the label you want, and you can print just the version you like best.

If you’re ready to put together a set of these cute clothespin magnets,  just read on. You’ll  find step-by-step instructions and pictures below.  Happy Crafting Friends!

Supplies Needed:

  • wood clothespins
  • glue stick (I highly recommend an extra-strength gluestick like this.)
  • scissors or paper-cutter
  • scrapbook paper (I used leftovers from my stash,  but check out some super-cute patterns here and here and here!)
  • glue stick (I highly recommend an extra-strength gluestick like this.)
  • scissors or paper-cutter
  • buttons and or/ twine
  • super glue (only needed if using buttons)
  • small magnets or magnet tape (I used these, cut in half.)
  • Free Printable Gift Tags (download above) printed on cardstock

How to Make:

Step 1:  Trace the clothespin onto scrapbook paper.   OR if using a paper cutter, simply measure the length and width of your clothespin so you know the dimensions to cut your paper.

Step 2: Cut out your strips of paper, using either a scissors or paper cutter.  (My picture below shows a scissors, but I actually switched to using my paper cutter: It gives nice straight edges and gets the job done quick:  I got all 20 of my strips cut in just a couple minutes using a paper cutter.)

Step 3: Glue paper strips onto clothespins. (I recommend using an extra-strength glue stick. I remember doing this craft with “regular” glue sticks during my friends’ crafting day, and the paper didn’t stick quite as well to the wood, especially when we added the weight of a button on top.)

Step 4: Add your embellishments (optional):  You can embellish by tying a little piece of twine around the top part of the clothespin, or use super-glue to attach a cute button.  I love this super glue for all my craft projects because it’s a strong bond, and you can squeeze just the right amount you need without getting extra spill.)

Step 5: Clip them on to the Free Printable Gift Tags. And that’s it: You’re all done! And ready with a cute gift to share!
